# The jpnedumathsymbols package for LaTeX (TeX)1

## Package Information /

Mathematical equation representation in Japanese education differs somewhat from the standard LaTeX writing style. This package introduces enumerative expressions in Japanese education. The term “in Japanese education” here refers to the results of my own survey of representations in authorized textbooks for high schools of several companies.

It is included in the latest version of \TeX Live. You can download from CTAN3 if it is not available in \usepackage{jpnedumathsymbols}.

## Contents / 目次

Apology: Most parts are written in Japanese only.

## The term “in Japanese education”

In the description of the jpneduenumerate package, I state that “mathematical equation representation in Japanese education differs somewhat from the standard LaTeX writing style.”

This is based on the requirement of the CTAN description (to write what you want the package to do in a concise), and was written with an eye to conveying the message to the target users, i.e., Japanese junior high and high school teachers. However, it may cause some misunderstandings among those outside of them, i.e., university educators and those who have not received mathematics education in Japanese, as to whether there is a standard for mathematical expressions in Japanese education. Therefore, I would like to explain my intention here, which is indicated in CTAN as Home Page (more information).

These are just a few simple examples. Please refer to the documentation11 together.

macros differences
\frac{1}{2} line length and spacing
\lim_{x\to0} x\to0 location in inline
\sqrt{2} length and spacing of upper line
\cmpl{A} line height per character (\overline)
derivative sign chart table in Japanese12, line in the English13 (?)
\parallel slanted in Japanese, upright in LaTeX
\similar S tilted $90^{\circ}$ to the left in Japanese, $\sim$ in LaTeX

I do not mean to imply that all of the instructions implemented in this package are different in their representation in the LaTeX standard and in Japanese education. The purpose of this package is to help teachers create teaching materials.
